Annual Commemorative Event
At the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood
>May 23, 2021
148th Anniversary of the Founding of the RCMP (NWMP)
Each year on this date, the anniversary of the RCMP, our division hosts an early morning vigil at the Cenotaph for Fallen Members and an historical walking tour that culminate with a prayer and wreath-laying ceremony.
Regrettably due to the Provincial Health Orders that were in effect, we were relegated to a small ceremony limited to only five attendees (including Beechwood personnel) and an abbreviated schedule to be on the site.

A brief ceremony started at 11:00 to honour and recognize all who served before us and those who are serving in the RCMP today, including their families.
The ceremony was to be live-streamed but, unfortunately, we experienced a glitch. Fortunately, we were able to recuperate a recording which you can view on the Ottawa Division website at https://ottawadivisionvaweb.site/2021-148th-anniversary-rcmp/
There is no need to log in or to have a Facebook account to view the video. Just click on the X in the right corner of the box to remove that ask.

Please note that there were major wind gusts which affected the quality of the sound from time to time.

Our plans for the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Civilian Members in the RCMP has regrettably been postponed to later this year. A communiqué will be issued with detailed information in due course.
It is fitting that we gather at the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood to honour all those who served before us including their families which is what makes this site unique. The Cemetery is available to all employees of the RCMP including their families.
We look forward to holding future ceremonies open to all at the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery at Beechwood once the current health crisis is behind us.
We hope you and your families are staying safe!
