Richard “Rick” Jones joined the RCMP on April 21, 1972 and served in “E” Division until his discharge on Dec 31, 1975.
He was awarded two (2) RCMP Commanding Officer Commendations for his actions in two separate interactions in British Columbia during high-risk arrests.
He was awarded the first commendation in December 1972 for the arrest of an armed individual in a motel room at Fort Nelson, BC. The individual was later sentenced to life in prison for murder.
Rick Jones received a second commendation in July 1973, together with Constables R.M. Curry, #28476, for their arrest of an armed subject. The 33-year old armed offender was later sentenced to six years for manslaughter.
