Why Become a Member of the Nova Scotia Division

Members Services & Division Advocacy

The Nova Scotia Member Services Program provides assistance to all division members in the following areas:

Following a Death

We provide direct assistance to association members, spouses, loved ones, significant others, partners, families, including executors, etc., following the death of a retired regular or civilian member or a public service employee who worked for the RCMP.

Some of the services that we offer but are not limited to are:

  1. Contact information for the RCMP Pension Centre. (It is important to contact the Pension Centre within 2 weeks following the death of a member)
  2. Various guides and information where appropriate such as:
    1. National Survivor & Executors Guide
    2. Retired Serving RCMP Member Survivor & Executor Information Package
    3. Post Death Family Assistance Document
    4. Civilian Survivor & Executor Information Package
    5. Information regarding reimbursement programs for: Regimental markers, plots and/or niches.
    6. Refer next of kin to the editor of the LAST POST. The editor will work with next of kin to establish a final tribute to be posted on our national website: www.rcmpvets.ca
  3. We offer our tributes for a funeral/celebration of life and/or an interment/inurnment. This may include chaplain services, Red Coats Honour Guard, piper and/or bugler (some restrictions apply), accoutrements such as palls, flags, boots, Stetson, etc.

Visitation Program

Purpose: The purpose of the program is to continue comradery with those who are hospitalized or shut in.

Eligibility: Any veteran in Nova Scotia who is shut-in or hospitalized and wishes to receive regular visits is welcomed to participate in the program and become a “Visitee”.

We encourage Nova Scotia members to identify to the Members Services Director any veteran that they feel should receive visits.

Volunteers: The confidential visitation program is a vital lifeline for our members who are in need. If you are interested in volunteering or know someone in need, please contact us at: NSDivisioncontact@rcmpva.org

Advocacy & Support

Our main objective is to recognize, promote, protect and champion the rights of our members as it relates to:

  • Pension
  • Insurance
  • Health care and benefits

We will assist members in gaining access to and/or information concerning:

  • RCMP pensions
  • Veterans Affairs Disability Pensions
  • RCMP Benefit Trust Fund
  • RCMP Veterans’ Association Foundation
  • Other sources of financial aid
  • Current or evolving issues of concern for the health and wellbeing of veterans
