Meredith “Mert” Rowden joined the RCMP on April 6, 1948. He retired at the rank of Staff Sergeant on January 24, 1972. He served in multiple Divisions in Canada and multiple detachments in British Columbia during his service. Postings included D Division: Manitoba; Depot Div. Regina & Police Dog Service, Innisfail, Alberta; E Division: British Columbia; O Division: Ontario.
Following his retirement in 1972, he served as Manager, Passenger Licensing and Safety, Motor Carrier Branch reporting to the Motor Carrier Commission. He was a Life Member of the RCMP Veterans’ Association, first joining in 1978. He served as Division Secretary from 2008 to 2018. Fellow Veterans gathered to help Mert celebrate 90th birthday in 2018.
