Barry Philip Bates, age 76, of Edmonton, Alberta passed away on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Barry Bates joined the RCMP on May 18, 1971. Following recruit training, he was posted to Alberta where he served at multiple locations.
In January 1978, Cst. Bates was one of four RCMP members presented with a Meritorious Certificate of the Order of St. John, Priory of Canada for on-duty life-saving actions undertaken in support persons at risk. On March 26, 1977, Cst. Bates came to the assistance of a woman injured, unconscious and in distress as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Coleman, Alberta. Cst. Bates applied cardio pulmonary resuscitation until the woman began to breathe again on her own. Cst. Bates later served as the coordinator of the “K” Division composite artists division, producing sketches derived from witnesses to assist in police investigations.
Barry Bates discharged from the RCMP on July 1, 1988 at the rank of Constable following 17 years of service.
