Our Charitable Work

The RCMPVA Foundation is the charitable arm of the Veterans’ Association. Outside of the RCMP Benefit Trust Fund, it is the only RCMP affiliated entity that is dedicated to providing financial assistance to serving and retired employees of the RCMP. It is designated by the CRA to receive funds and issue an official receipt for income tax purposes to carry out its approved purposes.

Recent examples

As of August 3,2024, the RCMPVA Foundation has provided emergency financial assistance in relation to the following incidents:

  • Lytton, BC wildfire – 4 regular members, 2 PSEs, 2 former members and one widowed spouse of a former member.
  • Halifax, NS area wildfire – 6 regular members, 3 PSEs, 1 former member
  • Maple Ridge, BC house fire – 1 regular member
  • Jasper, AB wildfire – 9 regular members; 1 PSE:1 retired member

In addition, memorial donations to designated charities, currently in the amount of $200, are made upon division request on the death of Active and Life Members (40 in 2024; 47 in 2023; 18 in 2022; 43 in 2021).

  • donations received on behalf of the memorial for Cst. Patton in SK for the completion of the memorial park.
  • annual contribution provided to Ned’s Wish to support the care of former PSDs; and
  • transition financial support for special applicants to the RCMP Benefit Trust Fund, until the BTF application is resolved.

NOTE: that 84% of the emergency financial support over the past three years has gone to serving employees of the RCMP.

2024 ACTIVITIES

During the 2024 year, the Charity engaged in a number of activities in support of its purposes. While the Charity did not conduct any formal fundraising during the year and does not possess a large wealth of resources as is obvious from the 2024 Financial Statements, the Board of Directors did take action with respect to several situations occurring during the year.

  1. The Charity was engaged in providing emergency financial assistance to currently serving members, former members and currently serving public service employees, who were dislocated from their residences with little or no warning as a result of wildfires, in particular the major fire surrounding Jasper, Alberta. It is interesting to note that approximately 90% of the financial assistance was directed to support serving RCMP members or public service employees.
  2. In maintaining the “E” Division Memorial Wall, the Charity arranged for the replacement of the memorial leaf in honour of Cpl. Derek Flanagan, to correct an error in its wording.
  3. In support of all RCMP Veterans’ Association divisions, the Charity continued with the program to provide memorial donations for all Active or Life Members who deceased during 2024. Throughout the year these donations were made in memory of 40 individuals (47 in 2023), representing 6 Association divisions (10 in 2023), and to 30 separate registered charities across the country (39 in 2023).
  4. In addition to the memorial donations to qualified donees, the Charity continued to support other charities, in particular “Ned’s Wish” — an organization that provides care and nurturing for dogs, prominent among them being former police service dogs, who are also “veterans”.
